Álvaro Pires de Évora
Álvaro Pires de Évora (active c. 1411–c. 1434) was one of the earliest known Portuguese Renaissance painters, working primarily in Italy. Born in Évora, Portugal, he became active in Tuscany, where his style blended the decorative richness of the late Gothic with the emerging naturalism of the Italian Renaissance.
His surviving works include altarpieces and devotional panels such as the Virgin and Child Enthroned with Saints and The Nativity. Álvaro Pires’s paintings are admired for their luminous colors, graceful figures, and delicate detail, making him an important link between Portuguese art and the early Renaissance developments in Italy.
