Andrea Mantegna
Andrea Mantegna (c. 1431–1506) was one of the most innovative painters of the Italian Renaissance, renowned for his mastery of perspective, sculptural figures, and dramatic compositions. Trained in Padua and later serving as court painter to the Gonzaga family in Mantua, Mantegna combined classical inspiration with Renaissance technique, creating works that remain some of the most powerful in art history.
His most iconic works include the frescoes of the Camera degli Sposi in Mantua, the emotionally charged Lamentation over the Dead Christ, and the Triumphs of Caesar series. Mantegna’s bold use of foreshortening, architectural settings, and antique motifs set new standards in illusionism and influenced generations of artists, from Albrecht Dürer to Raphael.
