Agnolo Bronzino
Agnolo Bronzino (1503–1572), born Agnolo di Cosimo, was one of the leading painters of the Florentine Mannerist school, renowned for his refined portraits, elegant figures, and sophisticated use of color. A pupil of Pontormo, Bronzino carried forward the expressive energy of Mannerism while perfecting a polished and courtly style that became the hallmark of Medici Florence.
His most celebrated works include the Portrait of Eleonora di Toledo with her Son Giovanni (Uffizi Gallery), which set the standard for aristocratic portraiture, and his allegorical masterpiece Venus, Cupid, Folly and Time (National Gallery, London). Bronzino was also a skilled fresco painter, contributing to the decoration of Florence’s churches and palaces with works that embody intellectual elegance and visual sophistication.
