Refunds Policy

At Blue Surf Art, every painting is individually created by hand by our professional artists as a custom, made-to-order artwork. Unlike mass-produced printed products, our paintings involve significant artistic labor, time, materials, and craftsmanship from the moment production begins.

Please read our returns and refund policy carefully before placing your order.

1. Made-to-Order Custom Artwork

All paintings sold by Blue Surf Art are created specifically for each customer based on the selected artwork, size, customization requests, and production instructions.

Because our paintings are handmade and produced to order:

  • Production begins specifically for your order

  • Artist time, materials, and labor are invested into the artwork

  • Custom and commissioned artworks cannot be resold or repurposed

For this reason, completed custom and made-to-order paintings are generally non-refundable, except where approved by Blue Surf Art on a case-by-case basis under the conditions outlined below.


2. Approval Process Before Shipping

For commissioned and customized artworks, we may provide a digital mockup and/or completed painting photo for customer review before shipment.

Customers are responsible for reviewing and approving the artwork carefully during this stage.

Please note:

  • Approval of a mockup or final painting proof confirms acceptance of the artwork based on the reference images and instructions provided

  • Requests for revisions must be clearly communicated during the review stage

  • Once approval is given and/or production has progressed significantly, refund eligibility becomes limited


3. Handmade Artwork Disclaimer

Blue Surf Art creates 100% hand-painted oil paintings, not digital prints or photographic reproductions.

As handmade artworks:

  • Slight artistic interpretation may occur

  • Brush texture, painterly softness, and natural variations are part of handmade art

  • Colors may appear slightly different due to lighting, photography, screen settings, or paint drying characteristics

  • Exact photographic duplication cannot be guaranteed, especially when working from low-resolution, blurred, cropped, or limited reference images

Customers acknowledge that handmade artwork is an artistic interpretation and not a photo print.


4. Refund Requests Due to Dissatisfaction

If a customer is dissatisfied with a completed artwork, refund requests will be reviewed case by case.

Refunds will not be granted solely because of:

  • Personal preference or change of mind

  • Subjective dissatisfaction after multiple revisions have been completed

  • Requests for exact photographic-level likeness where source reference materials were unclear or limited

  • Differences inherent in handmade painting versus digital photographs or printed images

To request consideration for a refund, customers must provide:

  • A clear written explanation of the issue

  • Supporting photo evidence

  • Specific reasons demonstrating that the final artwork materially differs from the agreed order instructions

Blue Surf Art reserves the right to assess each case individually.


5. Custom Commission Orders

For fully custom commissioned artworks (including portrait paintings, composition edits, added subjects, special requests, or personalized designs):

  • Significant design and artistic labor is invested before and during painting

  • Mockup preparation time and artist labor are non-recoverable

  • Such artworks cannot be resold to another customer

For this reason:

Full refunds are generally not available for custom commission orders once production has begun.

In certain cases, Blue Surf Art may, at its sole discretion, offer a partial goodwill refund or cancellation settlement depending on the production stage and circumstances.


6. Damaged or Incorrect Orders

If your painting arrives:

  • damaged during shipping

  • materially different from the item ordered

  • or incorrect due to our production error

please contact us within 7 days of delivery with photographs and order details.

Blue Surf Art will review the issue and may offer:

  • repair

  • replacement

  • partial refund

  • or another appropriate resolution


7. Chargebacks & Payment Disputes

Customers are encouraged to contact Blue Surf Art directly to resolve concerns before initiating a payment dispute or chargeback.

Blue Surf Art reserves the right to provide order records, approval history, revision communications, artwork proofs, and production evidence to payment processors in response to disputed claims.


8. Final Decision

As each handmade painting is unique, Blue Surf Art reserves the right to review all complaints and refund requests individually and make a final decision based on:

  • order type

  • customization level

  • production stage

  • approval history

  • supporting evidence

  • and fairness to both customer and artist

Note: For ALL returns you must contact us to receive a return authorization. Items returned without authorization will not receive a refund.
