Correggio
Correggio (c. 1489–1534), born Antonio Allegri da Correggio, was one of the most innovative painters of the High Renaissance, admired for his mastery of light, illusionism, and sensuality. Active mainly in Parma, Correggio pioneered daring foreshortening and dramatic perspective effects that later inspired Baroque masters such as Annibale Carracci and even Rubens.
His most celebrated works include the breathtaking frescoes of the Assumption of the Virgin in Parma Cathedral and the Vision of St. John in San Giovanni Evangelista. Correggio also painted mythological masterpieces such as Jupiter and Ioand Danaë, celebrated for their lyrical sensuality and atmospheric softness. His style marked a transition between the harmony of the Renaissance and the dynamic energy of Mannerism and the Baroque.
