Dosso Dossi
Dosso Dossi (c. 1489–1542), born Giovanni di Niccolò de Luteri, was the leading painter of the court of Ferrara during the Italian Renaissance. Known for his imaginative mythological scenes, poetic landscapes, and rich color, Dosso blended Venetian influences from Giorgione and Titian with his own lyrical and often mysterious vision.
Among his most celebrated works are Jupiter, Mercury and Virtue (Louvre), Allegory of Fortune, and Circe and Her Lovers in a Landscape. These paintings display his mastery of storytelling, atmospheric light, and fantastical subjects, making him a favorite of the Este court in Ferrara and a distinctive voice of Renaissance art.
