Francesco de' Rossi
Francesco de’ Rossi (1510–1563), better known as Il Salviati, was a prominent painter of the Florentine Mannerist school. Trained under Andrea del Sarto and influenced by Michelangelo and Raphael, Salviati became renowned for his dynamic compositions, refined draftsmanship, and expressive figures.
Active in Florence, Rome, and Venice, Salviati produced frescoes, altarpieces, and portraits that reflected both intellectual sophistication and Mannerist elegance. His most notable works include the frescoes in the Sala dell’Udienza of the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, the Deposition from the Cross (Rome), and numerous mythological and allegorical paintings. Salviati’s ability to merge classical themes with inventive design made him one of the most admired painters of mid-16th-century Italy.
