Francisco Pacheco
Francisco Pacheco (1564–1644) was a Spanish painter, writer, and teacher of the Late Renaissance and early Baroque. Active in Seville, Pacheco is best remembered today as the master and father-in-law of Diego Velázquez, one of the greatest painters of the Spanish Golden Age.
Pacheco specialized in religious painting, portraiture, and art theory. His most notable works include The Last Judgment(Seville), Martyrdom of St. Catherine, and Immaculate Conception. As an author, his influential treatise Arte de la pintura(1649) provided valuable insights into Spanish art theory, iconography, and the practice of painting during the Golden Age.
