Giulio Romano
Giulio Romano (c. 1499–1546), born Giulio Pippi de’ Jannuzzi, was a gifted painter, architect, and designer, celebrated as the leading pupil of Raphael. After Raphael’s death, Giulio completed many of his master’s unfinished works and went on to establish himself as a key figure in the transition from the High Renaissance to Mannerism.
In painting, Giulio is admired for his frescoes in the Palazzo del Te in Mantua, particularly the dramatic Fall of the Giants, which showcases his bold imagination, dynamic figures, and illusionistic effects. As an architect, he designed grand buildings and interiors that combined classical harmony with playful, inventive details. His unique style influenced artists across Europe and marked a new direction in Renaissance art.
