Gregorio Lopes
Gregório Lopes (c. 1490–1550) was one of the leading painters of the Portuguese Renaissance, admired for his religious altarpieces and devotional panels. Appointed as royal painter to King Manuel I and later King John III of Portugal, Lopes created works that combined the solemn spirituality of Northern Renaissance art with Iberian warmth and color.
His most notable masterpieces include the Altarpiece of the Convent of Christ in Tomar, the Annunciation (Lisbon), and numerous depictions of the Virgin and saints for Portuguese churches and monasteries. Lopes’s art is celebrated for its harmonious composition, luminous palette, and balance of Flemish influence with Portuguese tradition.
At Blue Surf Art, we recreate Gregório Lopes’s masterpieces as museum-quality, hand-painted oil on canvas reproductions. Each reproduction is crafted with care to preserve the rich color, devotional serenity, and Renaissance refinement of the originals.
