Orazio Gentileschi
Orazio Gentileschi (1563–1639) was an Italian painter of the Late Renaissance and early Baroque, celebrated for his refined adaptation of Caravaggio’s chiaroscuro. Known for his elegant figures, luminous color, and dramatic use of light and shadow, Orazio became one of the most important Caravaggisti working in Italy, France, and England.
His most famous works include The Lute Player (National Gallery of Art, Washington), David and Goliath (Prado Museum, Madrid), and Annunciation (Galleria Sabauda, Turin). Orazio’s art reflects a graceful balance between naturalism and idealized beauty, making his works deeply expressive yet refined. He also trained his daughter, Artemisia Gentileschi, who went on to become one of the most celebrated women painters of the Baroque.
