Robert Campin
Robert Campin (c. 1375–1444), often identified as the Master of Flémalle, was one of the founding figures of the Early Netherlandish Renaissance. Active in Tournai, Campin pioneered the use of oil painting techniques that brought unprecedented realism, depth, and luminosity to European art.
His most celebrated masterpiece is the Mérode Altarpiece (The Cloisters, New York), admired for its detailed domestic setting and symbolic richness. Other notable works include The Virgin and Child before a Firescreen and Portrait of a Man. Campin’s innovative approach to perspective, texture, and naturalism laid the foundation for later masters such as Jan van Eyck and Rogier van der Weyden.
At Blue Surf Art, we recreate Campin’s masterpieces with museum-quality, hand-painted oil on canvas reproductions. Each reproduction is crafted to capture the meticulous detail, luminous surfaces, and devotional intimacy of the originals.
