Adam van Noort
Adam van Noort (1562–1641) was a Flemish painter of the Late Renaissance and an important teacher in Antwerp, best remembered as the early master of Peter Paul Rubens and Jacob Jordaens. Although much of his surviving work is limited, van Noort played a significant role in shaping the next generation of Flemish Baroque painters.
Active mainly in Antwerp, van Noort created portraits, religious compositions, and historical scenes. His style combined the detail and precision of the Northern Renaissance with a developing Baroque dynamism. While his students would go on to international fame, van Noort’s legacy endures through both his own works and the foundational role he played in Flemish art.
