Hand-Painted Oil Paintings Created by Real Artists Since 2007
Blue Surf Art is a professional art studio specializing in hand-painted oil painting reproductions and custom commission paintings. Founded in 2007, the studio has spent nearly two decades creating original oil paintings and museum-quality reproductions for collectors, homeowners, interior designers, and art enthusiasts around the world.
Blue Surf Art was co-founded by Kate, who continues to lead the studio as Co-Founder and Head Artist. Since the beginning, Kate has worked closely with a team of talented Thai artists, helping clients transform their ideas, photographs, and favorite masterpieces into hand-painted oil paintings on canvas.
The Beginning of Blue Surf Art
Blue Surf Art was originally established on Koh Samui, Surat Thani, Thailand, in 2007.
The studio began with a small team of seven artists who shared a passion for traditional oil painting and fine art craftsmanship. From the early days, the goal was simple: create high-quality hand-painted artwork rather than mass-produced prints.
As Head Artist, Kate developed a deep understanding of each artist's strengths and specialties. Some artists excelled in abstract art, while others focused on portrait painting, Asian-inspired artwork, pop art, contemporary styles, or highly detailed oil painting reproductions.
This approach allowed Blue Surf Art to carefully match each commission with the artist best suited for the project, ensuring the highest level of quality and attention to detail.
Relocating to Bangkok
In 2015, Blue Surf Art relocated its studio from Koh Samui to Bangkok.
The move provided better access to professional art materials, premium canvases, specialty supplies, and international shipping services. Being based in Bangkok also made it easier to serve a growing international client base and manage larger, more complex commissions.
While the location changed, the studio's philosophy remained the same:
Every painting should be created by real artists using traditional techniques and genuine artistic skill.
Led by Artist Kate
Kate has been actively involved in the creation and supervision of hundreds of paintings since Blue Surf Art was founded.
As both an artist and creative director, Kate works closely with clients throughout the commission process. Her role includes reviewing reference materials, planning compositions, creating digital mockups, overseeing production, and ensuring that every painting meets the studio's quality standards before delivery.
Kate has experience painting a wide variety of subjects and artistic styles, including:
- Vincent van Gogh reproductions
- Gustav Klimt reproductions
- Claude Monet reproductions
- Rembrandt reproductions
- Classical European masterpieces
- Portrait paintings
- Custom family portraits
- Pet portraits
- Contemporary artwork
- Pop art commissions
This broad artistic background allows Blue Surf Art to confidently handle projects ranging from simple custom paintings to highly detailed museum-style reproductions.
Specialists in Oil Painting Reproductions
One of Blue Surf Art's core specialties is hand-painted oil painting reproductions.
Every reproduction is painted from scratch on canvas using traditional oil painting techniques. Rather than printing images onto canvas, the studio carefully recreates the artwork by hand, paying close attention to composition, color relationships, brushwork, texture, lighting, and historical painting methods.
Over the years, Blue Surf Art has completed reproductions inspired by some of the world's most admired artists, including Van Gogh, Monet, Klimt, Rembrandt, Renoir, Vermeer, Bouguereau, Picasso, and Warhol.
The goal is not simply to replicate an image, but to capture the artistic character and visual presence of the original masterpiece.
Custom Commission Paintings
In addition to reproductions, Blue Surf Art creates custom oil paintings from photographs and client concepts.
Popular commission projects include:
- Family portraits
- Wedding portraits
- Pet portraits
- Memorial paintings
- House portraits
- Anniversary gifts
- Personalized artwork
- Large-scale decorative paintings
Every commission is unique, and many projects require significant planning before painting begins.
Digital Mockups Before Painting (for commission art)
One of the unique advantages of working with Blue Surf Art is the studio's digital design process.
Before a complex commission enters production, Kate often creates a digital mockup to help clients visualize the final artwork.
This allows clients to request changes such as:
- Adding people
- Removing unwanted objects
- Combining multiple photographs
- Changing backgrounds
- Adjusting colors
- Improving composition
The mockup stage helps eliminate uncertainty and ensures that both the client and artist share the same vision before the painting process begins.
Once approved, the project moves to the hand-painting stage.
A Client Approval Process Built on Trust
Blue Surf Art believes that commissioning artwork should be a collaborative experience.
For this reason, client approval plays an important role throughout the process.
Whenever necessary, clients are shown digital mockups before painting begins. Once the painting is completed, photographs of the finished artwork are provided for review.
Only after receiving client approval does Blue Surf Art prepare the artwork for shipment.
This process gives clients the opportunity to request reasonable adjustments and ensures confidence before delivery.
Nearly Two Decades of Artistic Experience
Since 2007, Kate and the Blue Surf Art team have continuously refined their skills through years of practical experience.
Every completed commission contributes to a deeper understanding of artistic techniques, color relationships, composition, and client expectations.
Over time, the studio has become increasingly comfortable handling projects that require advanced technical skill, including large-scale commissions, complex portrait work, historical reproductions, and highly detailed oil paintings.
The experience gained through hundreds of completed projects continues to shape the quality and consistency of every painting produced today.
What Defines Quality at Blue Surf Art
For Blue Surf Art, quality is not measured by speed or production volume.
Quality comes from careful planning, artistic experience, strong communication, and attention to detail at every stage of the process.
From the initial concept and digital mockup to the final brushstroke, every project is approached with the same goal:

Kate is the Co-Founder and Head Artist of Blue Surf Art, a studio specializing in hand-painted oil painting reproductions and custom commission artwork. Since co-founding the studio in 2007, Kate has played a central role in helping clients transform their favorite masterpieces, cherished photographs, and creative ideas into hand-painted works of art.
Blue Surf Art began on the island of Koh Samui, Thailand, where Kate worked alongside a small team of talented Thai artists who shared a passion for traditional oil painting. What started as a modest studio has grown into an internationally recognized art business serving collectors, homeowners, interior designers, and art lovers around the world.
Throughout the years, Kate has remained closely involved in every stage of the creative process. As both an artist and creative director, she oversees commissions from concept development through to final approval, ensuring that every painting meets the quality standards that Blue Surf Art has become known for.
One of Kate's greatest strengths is her ability to understand the unique talents of each artist within the Blue Surf Art team. Over nearly two decades of working together, she has developed a deep understanding of which artists are best suited for different styles and subjects. Some artists specialize in abstract paintings, while others excel in portraiture, pop art, Asian-inspired artwork, or highly detailed oil painting reproductions. By carefully matching each project with the most suitable artist, Kate helps ensure the best possible outcome for every commission.
As an artist herself, Kate has experience painting a wide range of subjects and styles. Her work includes reproductions inspired by some of history's most celebrated artists, including Vincent van Gogh, Gustav Klimt, Claude Monet, and Rembrandt. She also enjoys working on contemporary commissions, custom portraits, and pop art projects, giving her a broad understanding of both classical and modern artistic approaches.
Beyond painting, Kate brings an additional layer of expertise through digital design and composition planning. Many custom commissions require more than simply reproducing a photograph. Clients often request modifications such as adding family members, removing unwanted objects, changing backgrounds, or combining multiple photographs into a single composition. Before a painting begins, Kate frequently creates detailed digital mockups that allow clients to visualize the final artwork and request adjustments before the painting process starts. This approach helps reduce uncertainty and creates a smoother experience for both the client and artist.
One principle has guided Kate's work since the founding of Blue Surf Art: every client should feel confident about their artwork before it is shipped. For this reason, client approval is an essential part of the studio's process. Whether reviewing a digital mockup or examining photographs of a completed painting, clients are given the opportunity to provide feedback and request reasonable revisions before delivery.
In 2015, Blue Surf Art relocated from Koh Samui to Bangkok. The move provided greater access to professional art materials, specialty suppliers, and international shipping services, allowing the studio to expand its capabilities while maintaining the same commitment to quality and craftsmanship. Today, Blue Surf Art continues to create hand-painted oil paintings for clients across North America, Europe, Australia, Asia, and beyond.
For Kate, painting is more than a profession. It is a lifelong commitment to craftsmanship, creativity, and continuous improvement. Each commission presents a new opportunity to learn, refine techniques, and help clients bring meaningful ideas to life through art.
After nearly two decades in the industry, Kate remains passionate about creating artwork that people are proud to display in their homes, offices, and collections. Whether working on a museum-quality reproduction of a famous masterpiece or a deeply personal family portrait, her goal remains the same: to create beautiful hand-painted artwork that will be enjoyed for years to come.
