Andrea del Sarto
Andrea del Sarto (1486–1530), born Andrea d’Agnolo di Francesco, was a celebrated Florentine painter of the High Renaissance, admired for his harmonious compositions, refined color, and graceful figures. Known as the “faultless painter” (pittore senza errori), his mastery of drawing and painting placed him among the most respected artists of his generation.
His most famous works include the Madonna of the Harpies (Uffizi Gallery), the frescoes of the Cloister of the Scalzo in Florence, and numerous depictions of the Holy Family and saints. Andrea’s art combines the balance and serenity of the Renaissance with a richness of color that influenced later Mannerist painters, including Pontormo and Rosso Fiorentino, both of whom trained in his workshop.
